Toledo Library Partnerhip

Opera Ignite has been a long-time collaborator with Toledo Opera in providing “An Opera is a Story” residencies to Toledo’s preschoolers. But for the first time, “An Opera Is A Story” comes to the Toledo Public Library! Teaching Artist, Christina Farrell, will lead a (virtual) musical adventure inspired by the famous opera, The Pirates of Penzance. Children will explore the setting, help the characters solve problems and add their own details to the story. The family event will be held live on January 30, 2021, but will remain on the library’s website for viewing afterwards.

Additionally, Toledo Public Library staff will attend a two-part professional develop workshop on Jan 27 and Feb 3, 2021. “Dig Deep: Use the Arts to Unearth Hidden Treasures in a Book” encourages storytellers to think like opera directors by bringing key ideas to life through music, movement, drama and visual experiences. The strategies modeled in the workshop encourage child-led experiences and promote deep immersion into the themes in a book for improved comprehension. Librarians will develop their own “Dig Deep” plans around a favorite book using arts-based strategies.

Thanks to Toledo Opera and Toledo Public Library for inviting Opera Ignite to share these inspiring and educational experiences!
