For the last two months, children at the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Centers (COTRAIC) preschools have been exploring the opera “The Barber of Seville” with Opera Ignite teaching artists. Offered in partnership with Opera Theater of Pittsburgh, the classroom workshops invite children to sing along with the characters, create a thunderstorm with their bodies and help the clever barber, Figaro, solve the problem. Children discover the difference between real and imaginary as they choose tricky costumes for Count Almaviva to wear and develop important comprehension skills by re-enacting the story.
All families of children who attend COTRAIC schools (Overbrook, Rochelle, Hazelwood, Loreto and Dorseyville) are invited to attend a FREE performance of The Barber of Seville by professional musicians from Opera Theater of Pittsburgh. The audience is invited to sing and dance along! After the performance, stay for crafts, snacks and photos with the cast.
