STONE SOUP
Residency Workshop (Grades K-5)

Launched in 2001 by the Lyric Opera of Chicago's Educational Department, the Stone Soup workshop gives students a hands-on experience with music and theater while providing teachers an engaging way to integrate curriculum.

Stone Soup is a delightful opera by Philip Seward that is ideally written for elementary-age voices and can be adapted to a wide variety of settings, cast sizes, ability levels and performance spaces. GAO conducts a hands-on workshop to stage this delightful story based on the famous fable. Teachers receive six different versions of the story of Stone Soup, including one in Spanish, six pages of cross-curricular lesson plans including language arts, social studies, art, math, and science, and eight different activities, games, and puzzles about Stone Soup. Schools are encouraged to integrate the program into their current lesson plans and to involve non-performers as audience members. An unforgettable experience for the whole school! A great idea for churches and clubs too!
