Founding Director Receives National Recognition! December, 2011
It has been an exciting year for Opera Ignite's Founding Director, Christina Farrell! In recognition for her outstanding record of providing professional development in arts integrated learning for young children, Christina was recently selected for inclusion on the national roster of Master Teaching Artists with the Wolf Trap Early Learning Through the Arts Institute in Vienna, VA. Since 2007, Christina has been leading classroom workshops through Gateway to the Arts' Western Pennsylvania Wolf Trap Early Learning Through Arts Residency program in the Pittsburgh region. But as a member of this elite group of specialized artist-educators, Christina will now be eligible to travel across the country to lead professional development workshops which inspire teachers to use musical storytelling to promote early literary and math skills.
Earlier this year, Christina was also selected as a 2011 Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship Recipient by the Television Academy of Arts and Sciences. Four winners are selected for this award nationwide and they receive a monetary award to be used for the development of a children's media project as well as mentorship from notable children's media professionals. Christina plans to use this opportunity to introduce families to the innovative ways that arts spark learning through interactive media.
